Pottstown, PA – August, 2016 – Donna Laver, registrar for the department of admissions, has been named the August Employee of the Month for Pottstown Memorial Medical Center (PMMC). The recognition is based upon the PMMC designated Pillars of Excellence (Service, Growth, Finance, People, and Quality). Employees are nominated for the award by their colleagues based on their commitment to patient care, their professionalism and their contributions on the job. Donna was chosen under the Service and People pillars for routinely going above and beyond for patients and staff.
Donna is recognized for recently comforting a mother who lost her son. She coordinated a sympathy card that was signed by Donna and her team members, who had been taking care of the patient for several months. The token of sympathy included depictions of special moments and memories their son had created with staff during his many visits to the hospital. A few weeks later, the patient’s mother contacted Laver to express how much this act of kindness helped her in dealing with the loss of her son.
“Employees at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center take pride in establishing a culture that champions healthier communities and patient-centered care,” says Richard Newell, chief executive officer, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. “Donna exemplifies our core values and mission through her dedication to our patients and hospital. “It is an honor to recognize Donna as the August Employee of the Month and to celebrate the achievements of all of our employees.”
Donna has been an employee at PMMC since 1988. She was nominated by Rita Rhoads, receptionist for the department of admissions, who had this to say about Donna: “Donna is constantly going out of her way to take care of patients at the hospital. She will tell you, she loves her job. Her strength and sincere concern for our patients is apparent as she observes patients approaching the registration department. For example, if she notices a patient with a special need, she has the patient sit at her desk, and she takes care of them. The families she reaches out to leave the admissions department with smiles on their faces, knowing that someone with a big heart took care of them. Donna does this, not only because it is her job, but because she truly cares!”
