PMMC Physician Performs 2500th Embolization Procedure

POTTSTOWN MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER PHYSICIAN ACHIEVES MILESTONE IN WOMEN’S HEALTH TREATMENT

POTTSTOWN, PA – Pottstown Memorial Medical Center today announced that Interventional Radiologist Dr Robert Worthington-Kirsch has now treated over 2500 women with Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), a minimally invasive therapy for symptomatic uterine fibroids. During this case PMMC became the first medical center in the area to implant the new Embozene™ Color-Advanced Microspheres. This new technology, manufactured by CeloNova BioSciences, Inc., recently received marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for U.S. commercial sales.

Dr. Worthington-Kirsch is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of embolization therapy for fibroid disease. He was one of the first physicians to offer this revolutionary treatment in the USA, and has the largest personal experience with this procedure in the world.

“I am thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in the care of so many women. Fibroid disease causes symptoms such as excessive menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure. Many women find that these symptoms severely interfere with their lives.” said Dr. Robert Worthington-Kirsch.  “Embolization therapy offers a minimally-invasive alternative to major abdominal surgery, allowing women durable symptom relief with minimal interruption of their busy lives.”

“We at CeloNova congratulate Dr Worthington-Kirsch on this achievement, and are happy that our new technology can help him make a difference in women’s lives,” said Thomas A. Gordy, President and Chief Executive Officer, CeloNova BioSciences, Inc. “we have worked with leading physicians and medical scientists to engineer Embozene™ Microspheres to have ideal properties as an embolic device.”
