Nurse Honored by March of Dimes Day of Gratitude Recognition

On November 27,2007 the Southeastern PA Division of the March of Dimes held a Day of Gratitude event at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center with a family of a premature babies. The Day of Gratitude is an opportunity for the March of Dimes to express thanks to the doctors, nurses and other health care professionals for all that they do each day as they care for these tiny babies and their families.

Taking part in the Day of Gratitude was the McKerns family of Pottstown. Rebecca McKerns went into labor two months early while she was in the care of the nurses at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Rebecca is forever grateful to the nurses who took care of her and especially to Maureen Scherer.

The March of Dimes is leading a national effort to save babies by funding research to find the causes of premature birth and by supporting programs for families with a baby in intensive care.

The March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign has been endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. American Baby magazine and Working Mother Media are national media sponsors. More than 50 professional and consumer organizations have become Prematurity Campaign alliance members, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Hospital Association, and the American Public Health Association.
